WOMEN PRIESTS

I just came across this video on on my blog surfing & it is just sooo wrong....on so many levels.....*shudders*

Notice how they never say "God the FATHER" (just "the source of all being")
(oooh, we wouldn't want to be sexist would we by calling God male (despite the fact that Jesus Himself calls God 'Father')

and what the do they say about this Holy Spirit? "the Holy Spirit Shakeena" ?? Did I just mis-hear that...?

anyway, it's very very sad & pathetic, as all heresy and rebellion against God's Church is.

For a very quick theology lesson....the reason that only males may become Priests, is because Priests act "in persona Christi"...in the person of Christ.
and as Christ was a man...there are no two ways about it.

Furthermore, when Jesus Himself chose apostles (and then when He sent them out as Priest at Pentecost) He only chosen men.
He could've chosen anyone...His mother or Mary Magdalene or Martha...but He only chose men.

and it's simply not true to say that that's because women were oppressed back then, and weren't allowed in public life.

a) there were many active holy Jewish women in the temple (Anna the prophetess for example)

b) Jesus could do whatever He wanted. He isn't constrained by mere social convention!!
He told people that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood if they want to have eternal life!
He would've chosen women if He wanted!

God Bless our Priests!!!

What a divine gift to mankind they are!

Oh dear. What a pity. It doesn't turn out much better, once that process is begun. One of the last sermons I heard in an Anglican church before deciding to convert to Catholicism was about how the (female) priest had felt nurtured and looked-after by the lay congregation. Much as I like the female priest in question and well-meaning as I think she is and was, I can't help but think that that sermon encapsulates a complete inversion of what the priest/congregation relationship should be. If memory serves, Christ's words were 'feed my sheep', not 'teach my performing dogs new tricks' (to quote C.S. Lewis) and certainly not 'be comforted by the love of your flock and don't teach them avoidance of hell and the way into Heaven'.

It's so refreshing and heartening to see a Christian woman make a stand against the very silly idea that everything must be defined by 'power relationships' and therefore all women should be doing all 'jobs' men do, to the extent of the priesthood and for the real, solid institution of the priesthood and the priests. I'm bookmarking this post, it makes me happy. :-)
