This Sunday (...tomorrow) is Father's Day in England.
I'm not sure of the history of Father's Day being in June, and I think the Italian Father's Day on March 19th (...St. Joseph's Feast Day!!) is a much more appropriate day!
But anyway!
Yesterday, my friends & I did a very sweet thing which I thought I'd share with you because I thought it was a really lovely idea...
we got a Father's Day card for our Priest and all signed it to let him know how much we appreciate him as our father in Christ!
(...it was a very tasteful card by the way!)
I have heard of other families that do this and, although he may laugh a little when he opens the card, I also think he will be very touched!
Although we are of course exceptionally grateful to our biological father for having given us life, raised and nurtured us (...thanks dad!), our Priests provide us with life also, via the Sacraments, and it just seems like a nice idea to acknowledge their role as our spiritual Father!
I just thought this was a great idea, and definitly something I will try to keep alive in future years!
Here is some information on why Catholics call Priests "Father"

I used to do this for the former priest of our parish, I think it's a very sweet idea :-)
I haven't done it for Fr. P because he's more of a friend (not to mention boss) as well as a priest - having said that, I think he'd really like it if I did, so I just might make him a card this afternoon when I get back form town!
Have a great weekend!
What a very good idea! i like it...
It's a very nice idea. I think he'll love it.
Thanks for that info Antonia, I've often wondered about the term, "father"
What a beautiful idea. :)
