Boston!!

Helloooo!!

I'm in Boston! Our flights went well, thank God, and we got here safely yesterday.

Our plane!

We were really lucky because, for some reason, our plane tickets came with free car hire so we have a car to drive around!

Me & our car

It was pretty terrifyingly scary driving from the airport to my friend's house. Chris hadn't driven an automatic car before, or on the right hand side of the road. So add in the fact that we had pretty much no idea where we were headed, it was raining, the highways are HUGE, the drivers occassionally 'forget' to signal when crossing lanes and noone sticks to the speed limit (we got honked by a taxi for going too slow and we were exactly on the speed limit!) and then we missed a turning and had to drive an extra few miles along the huge highway....it was THE scariest 35 minute drive in my life!

However, we got here alive (thank God again!) and Chris's driving was really really good today! He's getting the hang of the automatic, and of the right hand side of the road and got more confident.

So anyway, we slept for 12 hours last night (exhaustion of travelling + jet-lag) and so spent today just looking around Boston.

We went to a place called St. Anthony's Shrine which is like a museum of all things St. Anthony-related and is also a Church (we were able to go to adoration, benediction & Mass which was awesome!!!). They had this cute exhibit of tiny nun dolls each representing a different religious order dressed in their order's habits.

Sorry the picture ain't great but it was hard to take because the glass kept reflecting the light.

Here is Chris with the world's tallest man.

(just kidding, it wasn't actually the world's tallest man; it was just a huge statue of some random dude).
We then went to the Quincy market, which is like a shopping area place with loads of amazing food shops and stuff shops. You can basically eat an entire free meal with all the free samples they give out!
There was a stand selling about 10 different flavours of pop-corn, which were all really random and unusual! (click image above for examples) Peanut-butter & white chocolate pop-corn?!! I got a free sample of the oreo cookies popcorn which was pretty yummy!

Also, here is something else that seemed to be pretty popular round Boston...

...fried dough!

Seriously?! Fried DOUGH?!!

My American friend didn't find this as quirky or randomly amusing as Chris & I did.....but we just couldn't believe it! People are SELLING dough?! which has been fried?!!

hehee! We just found it kinda funny!

Also, food and clothes here are a good 25-50% cheaper than in the UK! (...not that I bought 3 tops and Chris bought a shirt & tie or anything!)
(I know! How awful that we spent like 2 hours in a clothes shop on our first day on holiday when the weather outside was beautiful! But it was an awesome shop! Someone in England told us that we have to go there, mega mega cheap clothes (even cheaper than normal American clothes prices!))

anyway, I am pretty exhausted so I better get to bed.
Also it is really really warm here (about 25-30 degress C, but also pretty humid) which is nice! (I like being warm though! Chris is basically melting!)

Not sure what we're doing tomorrow; probably going around Salem (where the witch hunts were) & possibly Maine.

ciao for now

So glad you are safe and well! If I were going there I'd arrive with an empty suitcase and fill it up with half price clothes, to be sure!

Enjoy the rest of your stay and have a fabulous time :-)

Fried dough is the best! I used to eat it all the time as a kid. The best is when it is sprinkled with powdered sugar!
