So today (Friday) has been an....interesting day.
I am sick.
Properly and truely ill. Fever, shivery, constantly cold despite my 4 layers of clothes, achey all over, tired, nauseous, head-achey, sore-throat and taking paracetemol every 4 hours.
Not fun.
Hope I cope with my 10 hours of flights to Canada tomorrow morning.
We wanted to do a lot more than we ended up doing today. We went to see Harvard & MIT which was kinda nice (despite the fact that I felt close to collapse while at Harvard and lay down on their library's steps for a nap...)
We then wanted (...well, mainly Chris wanted...I just wanted to get into a bed) to drive around some of the near-by towns...but on our way around Boston we had a little bit of a car accident.
Totally not our fault...a pick-up truck was turning left into a parking lot and so Chris decided to drive past him as he was turning....but at the last moment the driver of the pick-up suddenly decided to reverse his truck.....RIGHT INTO US.
They scratched all down one side of our hired-car and BROKE OFF THE REAR DOOR HANDLE!
oh dear.
So the driver of the pick-up truck decided he didn't want to give us his insurance details without a police-man there...so he phoned the police!
Oh dear Lord! There was me, sitting in the car, feeling close to death, repeatedly praying Haily Marys, with Chris talking to the police-man......in the rain...
as I said...not fun!
So anyway, the police-man swapped our insurance details and we drove off, with our broken door handle.
When we got home Chris started filling in some forms for the accident for the car-hire company while I crawled into bed shivering.
Then I hear...
"eerrrrr....Antonia...where's my driving license....?"
"umm...I gave it to you to when you went to speak to the police-man and you never gave it back to me..."
*noise of Chris going over to search through back-pack, money-belt, my bag...*
"...it's not here.."
I'm sure you can imagine what the next hour was like...did the police-man give it back to Chris? Did it fall out of Chris's pocket? what on earth are we going to do if we don't find it?
We phoned various police stations...Boston police, Massachusettes police, police stations in the area where we crashed...."no, sorry, we have no record of an officer being called out to a crash in that area..."
and on the 4th phone call we finally got through to an officer who said "Yeh, I remember you! I forgot to give you back your license this afternoon..."
So, currently Chris's driving license is in a police-station on the other side of Boston...and we are leaving the house in 6 hours...and have to return a hire-car with no rear door handle...and I have a sore-throat and feel shivery, fevery and pretty awful..!!!
say a prayer for us please!
