Yesterday I broke my own personal record, and was in the hospital working for 13 HOURS!! My team was on-call so I had to spend the evening in A&E ('ER' for the Americans!). We were time-tabled to stay till midnight, but at 10pm after a couple of cases of appendicitis, some jaundice, a road-traffic accident, knee gashes and diarrhoea, our House Officer told us (me & my 3 student peers) that we could leave early! woohooo!
So by the time I got home, had dinner & got into bed it was past midnight.
This morning I then had to drag myself up at the crack of dawn (actually, before the crack of dawn!!) to make it to the 3.5 hour ward-round to present the patients I had examined last night and to follow around the Consultant (BIG POWERFUL BOSS) as he checked up on the progress of all his patients.
11 hours later I have finally made it home!
Thank the Lord I don't have to be in till 9am tomorrow morning!!
I've just washed my hair in the sink with a kettle as my source of hot water (our brand new boiler has died for some reason), and so as I sat at my desk half falling asleep I thought "what better way to spend my time than to blog! But alas what shall I blog about for I have nothing original, creative or interesting to talk about?..."
So I tagged myself from dilexitprior blog...

May I link to yours?
That was an enjoyable read! You sure have long hours go girl!
My fave foods are mums lasagna too and grapes, just as well since we own a vineyard, I can only eat them one season of the year though :(
It sounds rather primative with that hair washing lol, hope it gets fixed soon, being new and all!

Welcome to the wonderful world of medicine. Ok, so I'm on the other end, not a physician, but as a doctor's child I know all about long hours.
On which note, I mentioned to my dad that I'd found a great blog from a young Catholic studying medicine in England who's all for NFP. He wants to know if you want to move to Canada and take over his NFP-only practice? :-) hahahaha... well, he actually is looking for someone as he's wanting to get out of his family practice...it's hard enough finding a replacement, let alone one who's NFP-only (doesn't prescribe contraceptives, refer for abortions, participate in sterilization procedures, etc...).
moneybags - of couse you can link to my blog!
Carmel - I hope the hot water gets fixed too...a sink & a kettle is no fun! On the bright side, at least our radiators are still warm, the house would be icey cold if they weren't!
Dilexitprior - Every time we moan about the long hours, the doctors keep reminding us that it will only get worse..!
Goodness, I bet your dad is finding it very hard to find an NFP-only GP! Hopefully God will provide soon for him.
May I ask what he's looking to do once he's left general practice..?
We need so many more doctors like that. Today my friend who is getting married was telling me how she is going on the pill before her wedding, simply because she wants to plan her menstral cycle for the wedding date, and because of contraception of course. I was a little lost for words and was trying to think of a Catholic doctor to refer her to, but unfortunately I don't know one around here.
Advising NFP was like asking her to swim accross the ocean :(
He's had a family practice / general practice for over twenty years but he also does anaesthesia part-time (which includes advanced life support and pain control here). He's looking to get out of his practice and spend more time in the operating room doing anaesthesia. This would hopefully give him more flexibility in his scheduling, as well as less paper work, which would free him up a bit to spend more time caring for my grandparents who are getting old and are needing increasing support.
Yeah, it's hard enough finding a replacement physician because of the shortage of doctors, particularly outside urban centers, let alone one who is NFP-only.
