Thank you all for your kind words and comments.
Yesterday we held my Uncle's funeral mass; the second unexpected family funeral in less than 5 months. Ouch.
Like my other Uncle's funeral in November, there were hundreds of people at the funeral yesterday. So many in fact that there were people standing in the courtyard outside the Church because they couldn't get in.
His youngest daughter, my dear cousin, celebrated her 25th birthday yesterday; can you imagine what it must be like to bury your father on your birthday?
When she was born, 25 years ago, her dad bought her 11 roses because it was the 11th of April, and so yesterday she bought him 11 red roses, and placed them on his coffin as they lowered it into the earth.
It's scary how quickly this all happened; he was ill in late December, with some difficulty breathing, was in hospital for about a month till late January while they tried to figure out what was wrong. He had 2 lots of chemotherapy treatment in February and March. He was unable to complete the full chemotherapy course of 6 chemo treatments because he was too ill, so they discharged him from hospital in late March, and then first week of April, he died.
I think the cancer was too advanced and had already spread too much by the time they found it earlier this year.
Lung cancer is, unfortunatly, extremly common, and a universally aggressive cancer.
For him, and all other lung cancer victims;
Eternal Rest Grant Unto Them Oh Lord, May Your perpetual Light Shine Upon Them May They Rest in Peace. Amen.
