I have been meaning to write a post on this for a while, but in honour of Pope JP2's anniversary I have decided to make an effort to write about this prayer that was so very very dear to his heart;
"Reading this book (St. Louis de Montfort's True Devotion to Mary) was to be
a turning point in my life.... This Marian devotion...has since remained a
part of me. It is an integral part of my interior life and of my spiritual
theology."
--Pope John Paul ll.
St. Louis de Monfort was especially devoted to our Lady, and he wrote a 33 day prayer through which one consecrates their entire life to Jesus, through His Blessed mother Mary.
This prayer should be started 33 days before any Marian feast day, so that the consecration prayer on the final day takes place on one of Mary's feasts days.
John Paul 2 was very devoted to our Lady, and he said on a number of occasions, that these prayers were the turning point of his life. In fact, his motto for his entire Papcy was 'Totus Tuus' which means "Totally Yours" and is from St. Louis de Montfort's writings on Our Lady.
There is an AWESOME organisation (GOD BLESS THEM!) who sends out the booklets with the entire 33 days of prayers, for NO COST to you, as long as you pledge to consecrate yourself to Christ through Our Lady.
Through Divine Providence I stumbled across their website a few years ago and so got the booklet and I can honestly say I have fallen in love with the prayers and they have definitly been the source of so many graces. Along with JP2, I definitly recommend them because they are life-changing.
So here is the amazing site which sends out the books with the prayers in (email: RWSKOI@aol.com)
and for info; here is a ready prepared list of all the dates during the year when the prayers can be started (33 days before any Marian feast day).
On a separate note; the story behind the picture at the top of this post is breath-taking. One day an American tourist was at the Vatican and he took a picture of the sun setting behind St. Peter's. When he got home and had the pictures developed he noticed a funny dark smudge in the centre of the sun....he had it enlarged....and it was the picture above; Our Lady holding the John Paul 2!
Top Ten Reasons Why We Should Consecrate Our Lives To Jesus Through Mary
1. To emulate the sanctity of our previous Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, who selected the de Montfort Consecration (True Devotion) for his own Marian Spirituality
2. To provide the easiest, safest, fastest, most secure, and surest path to Jesus and to our own salvation
3. To obtain Our Lady's help in bringing us from our own unworthiness to the level of conversion, holiness, and perfection in our lives needed to enable us to become saintly
4. To turn our lives over completely and without reservation in service to Jesus through Mary to reflect our love and our trust in them now and for all eternity
5. To obtain special graces and protection under Our Lady's sheltering mantle
6. To help bring others to Jesus through Mary for their conversion, holiness, and perfection through this total consecration devotion
7. To hasten the day of the Triumph of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart and the day when Mary and Jesus will reign in all hearts
8. To fulfill Our Lady's request for individual consecration of our lives to her Immaculate Heart, as given to us through Sister Lucia during the Fatima apparitions
9. To become an effective counter-force to the legion of evil so prevalent in the world by offering up our prayers, sacrifices, and sufferings to Jesus through Mary
110. To renew our Baptismal promises and to evangelize the world to Jesus through Mary

Wow, Antonia, thanks so much for the link. I think I will request to get one.
Well done, Antonia. I recall a visit to the Saint's tomb a few years ago, and I have posted pics on my blog. Keep up the good work!
I've read the first few pages of True Devotion. It's the first book I'll be reading once my final exams are done.
