These pictures included drawings like Mohammed wearing a turban shaped like a bomb, and him joking about suicide bombers and stuff.
It wasn't very respectful of the newspaper to publish these pictures, but personally I think the response has been some-what over the top...
Apart from all the usual stuff, like burning Danish flags, destroying Danish produce and boy-cotting Danish goods, there have also been bomb threats made on Danish Embassies in the Middles East, Danish ambassadors have had to be recalled and a number of Danes in the Middle East have had to leave their jobs because of fear of being attacked.
Here is an article from today.
It brings me back to 2 years ago here in the England when the BBC spent several million pounds making a cartoon called Pope-Town, which was pretty insulting to our beloved Pope and mocking of the Catholic hierarchy (see here).
The response of the Catholics in England was to sign a petition which we presented to the BBC.....and then implement nation-wide prayer. I remember our parish Church held a novena to St. Joseph asking that he would help & stop the show from going on the air.
....and despite having spent A LOT of money making it, and getting ready to air it in the UK....in the end the BBC released a statement saying:
"There is a fine judgement line in comedy between the scurrilously funny and the offensive....but unfortunately, once we saw the finished series, it became clear that the programme fell on the wrong side of that line."
so it was never shown! yey!
There is an infinite amount of anti-Catholic propaganda around in the secular media, but we have to remember that only the Holy Spirit can change hearts and minds, and so prayer is the most powerful weapon we have to change the world! (in fact, there is nothing more poweful!)
~
Come Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. Oh God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed the hearts of the faithful, Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
~
(although I've read that PopeTown was released on other channels round the world, like the comedy channel in Australia... Oh well. Our prayers were answered in that it wasn't shown in the UK; an already semi-pagan anti-Catholic nation!)
