The pill caused woman to die of a blood clot
Pathologist at James Connolly Memorial Hospital told Dublin County Coroner’s Court yesterday that the contraceptive pill was the cause of Ms Hennessy’s deep verin thrombosis
"Clotting is a well-known risk of using the contraceptive pill. There is no other medication that has such a big risk as the oral contraceptive pill,” said Dr Szontagh-Kishazi.
another story here
The formation of a blood clot is not a common side-effect of the pill, but it does still happen as shown by this very very tragic case. Although all doctors know that the pill is a risk factor in the formation of blood clots, I don't know how many users of the pill actually know about it.
The woman was only 31yrs old. Eternal rest grant unto her Oh Lord...
Thanks to Brendan for the details.

Hey! Welcome home ;) Nothing beats the first embrace after awhile with your beloved :)
Scary, people take things like OCP thinking those side effects could never happen to them. So sad when it does :(
I'm sure your sleep will get into a pattern pretty quickly with Uni. started :) Good luck with studying!

ps the pict of Mary I had on my blog for the Assumption - I didn't attribute it b/c I couldn't find anyone to attribute it to! I just googled "Mary Assumption mosaic" in google images. :)
Since finding out that I have a blood clotting disorder, I've read so much on other ladies with my disorder and how they all developed blood clots if they used birth control pills. It's just odd to me that doctor's just prescribe it without testing a woman first for thrombophilias. I know those tests are expensive, and I had to fight to get them done on me, but why not?

Some years ago a friend of mine who is obese, smokes and has high blood pressure decided she needed to go on the Pill. Her doctor was going to prescribe it.
I told her the side effects. It was because of me that she changed her mind-but her GP had no problem at all with prescribing it!
When I was on the Pill I was having serious side effects including severe migraines and my GP insisted it was nothing to do with the Pill. Strange then that when I stopped taking it-the effects went away.
Antonia,
You post such fantastic articles on your blog. Would you consider cross-posting them at Per Christum? Post them here and there, Johnathan does it on occasion with his blog....
