I'm back after one glorious Christ-filled month at Camp Covecrest in
Georgia (2 hours north of Atlanta, USA)
I had the most A-MAZING time in America! Being surrounded by joyous, holy,
God-filled Catholics was so inspiring and peaceful! YEY FOR THE BODY OF
CHRIST!! YEY FOR CHRIST'S ONE CHURCH ON EARTH! We had daily mass and daily
rosary, weekly stations of the cross, weekly reconcilliation, and adoration
three times a week.
My job as Summer Staff was to lead and organise the many crazy games, to
lead my own small group in in-depth discussions and to generally be a
servant to the teens who came to camp and help lead them closer to Christ.
We had the greatest time going rafting, rock climbing, doing high ropes,
swimming in the huge natural water-fall, tug of war in the mud-pit,
battling in 'Water Wars 2005' and competing in Messy Olympics! I've never
been so covered in syrup, chocolate sauce, bird seed, shaving cream,
sprite, CoolWhip, frosting, mash potatoes, mud etc etc...as I was this last
month!!
The Camp were very very mildly charismatic, but still extremely orthodox.
If any of my readers have been to a charismatic adoration before then you
will understand me when I say that we tried our absolute hardest not to
encourage the hysterical crying and collapsing (mostly, if you ask me, due
to auto-suggestion) that going on during the majority of charismatic
adoration. In fact we even discouraged it and tried to focus on the
development of a conversion less rooted in hyper-emotion.
I also made awesome friends with the other 15 summer staff on my team. We
totally bonded and many tears were shed when we left each other at the
airport. I feel so privileged to have had this opportunity to get to know
such wonderfully Catholic people who strive daily to live as Christ taught,
and as how His One True Church proclaims. We may never see each other in
person again, but we know we will meet weekly at mass as we are united as
one body
I am now very very jet-lagged and ill! There is a 5 hour time difference
between here and Atlanta so I didn't get to sleep till 4am last night!
eugh! I also caught some horrible disease on the plane as it was FREEZING
cold! I had on 5 layers of clothes and 2 blankets but was still shivering
and now I have a bad cold! eugh! stoopid jet-lag!
My darling Chris is actually, coincidentally, in the USA at the moment, so
I havent seen him yet. He is at a conference in Baltimore and will be
returing tonight. One of my friends from camp, on her way back up to New
York from Georgia, actually took him out to lunch yesterday which was
really nice!
anyway, here are a couple of pics for your enjoyment...
