today I managed to finish my intensive 10 days of revision in which I attempted (and succeeded...to whatever degree!) to revise my entire year's worth of academic work.
I now have exactly a week to get my dissertation up-to scratch before it is handed in next Wednesday 27th. It is worth 40% of my total grade for this year and I have been working on it since October!!
I still need to..
1. Reduce it by 2,500 words as I am majorly over my word limit
2. THINK OF A DECENT TITLE!!
3. re-do some really ugly diagrams I put in
4. check out some references
5. ensure it all makes sense and that there is a point to it!
But what, I hear you ask, is my dissertation about...
well, it's hard to give a nut-shell answer seeing as I don't actually have a title yet...
but basically it's about female infertility and how it is handled and treated in the UK.
I have found some pretty good evidence that the current system of infertility health-care provision in the UK is way too geared up towards IVF (in vitro fertilisation) at the expense of properly diagnosing the cause of the women's infertility and using much simpler, cheaper and more morally acceptable methods of treating infertility such as drug therapy or simple surgery.
Actually, technically speaking, IVF doesn't even treat infertility. It treats the manifestation of infertility...that is, the childlessness.
Once I have demonstrated that this is the case, and why the medical profession should not simply be sending off women for IVF if other medical & surgical alternatives exist, then I make my own suggestions for a new method of investigating and treating female infertility more effectively. This will hopefully ensure that subfertile women are properly investigated as to the cause of their infertility and are offered medical & surgical treatments first rather than just being sent off for IVF.
....so yeh, that is what I will be up to for the next 7 days!
what fun!
any volunteers for proof-reading...?
